Courses: Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam preparation

Course Outline

The IELTS test is an internationally recognised test for those who want to live, work or study in an English-speaking country. It is recognised by immigration authorities, universities and professional bodies and is managed by the British Council and Cambridge Assessment English.

IELTS tests the four language skills:

  • Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking

There are two versions of IELTS:

  • General Training - for those who wish to live and work in an English-speaking country
  • IELTS Academic - for those who wish to study at university level or register with a professional body

The IELTS test is an indicator of ability, on a scale of 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert user). The average entry requirement for a UK university is 6.5, but this can vary depending on the institution and course studied.

The IELTS test is administered in the following format:

  • Listening test: 30 mins
  • Reading test: 60 mins
  • Writing test: 60 mins
  • Speaking test: 11-14 mins

At Fareham Language School, we offer our Academic IELTS exam preparation course to help you prepare for the exam.

Lessons will involve guidance on each aspect of the exam; how best to prepare for each section and will include a range of exam-style activities as well as completing practice papers.

Our course is a preparation course. When you are ready, Fareham Language School can advise on local examination centres.
